iPod classic 160gb: viewing slideshow on TV

so my mom has had a 60gig classic and has always been able to view her photo slide show on her TV (using a cable from the headphone jack leading to the audio/video into the TV - sorry, don't know the proper terms here). or she could watch it using her ipod dock w/ a mini screen (like the mini DVD players).

i recently bought her a 160gb thinking it works the same way... watching the slideshow is a big deal for her. anyway, the cable mentioned above doesn't seem to work for the 160... only music plays. the dock is the same way, doesn't show the slideshow only the background music.

i checked the settings and it IS set to view through external source (or whatever that setting is called).

do we have to buy the apple composite cable that attaches to the bottom of the ipod and has the 3 audio/video connectors (priced at $49 i believe)? is it common that the ipod dock that works for the 60 doesn't work for the 160?

Yes, you need a new cable. And, there are composite and component versions of that cable.

When you say "60 gig Classic" I think you actually mean 4th gen "iPod Photo "or 5th gen "iPod Video." The AV cable for those went into the headphone jack and is not compatible with any model of the "iPod Classic" that was released about the time of the touch release. The newer ones use an AV cable that plugs into the dock connector.

Is that an Apple dock? or some other manufacturer? You might check with manufacturer to be absolutely certain, but I do believe that is correct.

Do a google search for ipod video cable compatibility and you should find some info. There was definitely a change in the way Apple output video after the 5th gen iPods.
