I recently saw that William Russell who played the companion Ian at the start of classic Doctor Who (1963) has recently passed away at the age of 99. I think that the show might have been canceled soon after it started if not for his and Jacqueline Hill's (Barbara) presence.

I always thought that all the actors from the first seasons of classic Doctor Who had passed away many years ago.
