The classic MacOS can be easily emulated on intel Macs. Be it System 5 or System 6 or Mac OS 9 or whatever, they all emulate very well on intel Macs.

Has anyone tried emulating various versions of the classic Mac OS on ASi Macs and how did it perform?
Obviously ASi has the juice to easily do it but is everything else in place for it to run smoothly?

What's the purpose of emulating macOS 9 or earlier after more than 2 decades after its initial release
For me is running ProTools free using less resources than, say, ProTools First. Same basic audio edition using less computing power.

just like anything there are people that are interested in old computing just as a hobby, it’s like driving a classic car that you grew up with - yea that new Tesla beats it in every single way, but that classic el camino your dad let you borrow to take your old crush to prom has a charm that’s irreplaceable.

Old applications people still want to use.
Hobbyist interest (as said above)
Fun and/or proof of concept. Some people like doing it just because they can.

For me it's old applications that still interest me. I still use them from time to time.
So if it's easy to get OS9 or System whatever up and running on the ASi Macs, that will be a very good thing indeed.

Wherever my feet take me…
A little off topic, but a while ago, I discovered the Sheep Shaver emulator, and was able to run a Mac OS 9 environment. I really wanted to play this X-Files game that no one ever ported to OS X. Couldn't get the game to run when I used Sheep Shaver under Catalina. Kept getting errors. Moved it to my Windows 10 Bootcamp. Didn't change anything other than used the Windows version of Sheep Shaver. Ran like a charm. Weird how this stuff works.

It's possible. At least I can boot into the installing program of Mac OS 9.2.1

I can match that with Diablo 1. Also there's quite a few old games that are still well worth playing on the Classic Mac OS.

@Gnattu
Thank you for this. That's very nice information to have. I am sure to use it when I buy a M-series Mac. I'm waiting for a mid range iMac.

Many of these games ran like **** on my 68030. I didn’t get to enjoy them until I went to G3.

Ripper. That’s a game. Came on six CDs. You can DL it from Macintosh Garden.
