Is it possible to delete or not install 9.2.1 when i install 10.1? I never use it anymore and it takes up my HD room and room on sys prefs. Anyone? I have tried deleting but the Mac failed to boot....Ooops.
Kela,
I have OSX installed on my home computer G4 400 192 megs (soon to be much more... gotta love those RAM prices). It runs Great!
My lab computers G4 533's 512megs ran about the same as my home puter. OSX 10.1 made a big diference. Also scale windows makes things even snappier.
I would only recomend OSX for the home user. Not enough applications (real work stuff) for OSX and it does not network. Don't believe the Apple's propaganda... it will not network with an NT server and be usefull in full capacity. (Sorry don't know about win2000...our server is NT).
I just installed 10.1 on my girlfriends iMac G3 400 with 384 Mb ram. It runs just fine. It's a little slower than 9.2 is, but not painfully slow, and it's worth it. Even classic runs fine, although it takes a while to start of course. The average user shouldn't have any problem with it at all.
Problem in the networking is only with classic. If I wasn't using classic then there would be no problem. Samba works great...but really stupid way to connect for non Unix/networking people.
I just got AFP working smoothly today by reseting the appletalk on theNT server. But classic still crashes apps when working with the server.
I really like OSX in all aspect other than the way classic interacts with networks. But since most of my work revolves around classic apps and networking...you can see my frustration.
OSX will be great. But is is not fully ready for mass consumption. Home use maybe. Production definately not.
