Is it possible to delete or not install 9.2.1 when i install 10.1? I never use it anymore and it takes up my HD room and room on sys prefs. Anyone? I have tried deleting but the Mac failed to boot....Ooops.

sure. just reinstall os x.1 and choose the option to erase the harddrive before installing. that will make OS X the only OS on your system.

No classic??? what do you do with your computer...just surf the web?

Almost all of my apps are still classic.

classic

the classic in mac os x is very slow, about 20% slower then real thing! is that cause i have only 128 megs of ram or what?

generally

generally speaking. OSX sucks. For an average user, if you dont have a G4/500 or above with over 256mb ram. THen dont use it.

Kela,
I have OSX installed on my home computer G4 400 192 megs (soon to be much more... gotta love those RAM prices). It runs Great!

My lab computers G4 533's 512megs ran about the same as my home puter. OSX 10.1 made a big diference. Also scale windows makes things even snappier.

I would only recomend OSX for the home user. Not enough applications (real work stuff) for OSX and it does not network. Don't believe the Apple's propaganda... it will not network with an NT server and be usefull in full capacity. (Sorry don't know about win2000...our server is NT).

Don't see what the problem is

I just installed 10.1 on my girlfriends iMac G3 400 with 384 Mb ram. It runs just fine. It's a little slower than 9.2 is, but not painfully slow, and it's worth it. Even classic runs fine, although it takes a while to start of course. The average user shouldn't have any problem with it at all.

Well....

I have an iBook 2k1 and use it for school and home. Nothing real serious. That why I don't use Classic anymores.....

It works fine for me, damn fast in fact. Load times are beating my bros pc even, that being a 700mhz p3 with 128mb or ram and win2k

Networking is perfect, I can talk to win2000 and NT out of the box. I dont know what the problem there can be....

Problem in the networking is only with classic. If I wasn't using classic then there would be no problem. Samba works great...but really stupid way to connect for non Unix/networking people.
I just got AFP working smoothly today by reseting the appletalk on theNT server. But classic still crashes apps when working with the server.

I really like OSX in all aspect other than the way classic interacts with networks. But since most of my work revolves around classic apps and networking...you can see my frustration.

OSX will be great. But is is not fully ready for mass consumption. Home use maybe. Production definately not.

re: generally

i don't have 10.1 yet so i guess my iBook 300 MHz with 160 MB is out of the question?

well, if that's the case, i have to buy a new mac

jefhatfield,

Does your curent computer do what you need it to do?

Are you comfortable with the OS.

Is there something in the new OS that you really need or REALLY like?

If your computer can't perform to your expectations then upgrade.

If you buy just for the lastest and greatest....then you don't own a computer. It owns you.

computers owning me

try becoming a computer tech and you will know what it is like being owned by the computer

Classic and OS9.2 extensions

Does anybody know how Classic treats OS 9.2 extensions? Does it even use them?

I'm wondering if having more than the base extensions in OS 9.2 might cause Classic to be less study.

Any insights?

Just a non sense quote

Did you see in the Episode 2 trailer that looks like the operator use future generation iMacs?

That Episode 2 is gonna be something, and ocean of fantasy beetwen all this war and political realism.

I wont see ET again, I saw it so many times already.
