State of Denial
I've got a PowerMac G5 running 10.4.6 that Classic seems to be hanging when starting up. It gets past the smily mac to the Mac OS 9-on-grey screen, but then stops (never gets to the extensions parade). If I do it normally (ie, double clicking an OS 9 app, or launching from System Preferences), TruBlueEnvironment hangs (according to Activity Monitor). If I start it with Extensions Off (via System Preferences), it just doesn't go.

I've restarted the computer, repaired permissions, installed all updates (not in that order), and even replaced the System Folder completely with one that was on the OS Install Disc 2 that came with the computer (the original System Folder on there was copied from another computer).

That computer also has a backup of another hard drive, which has its own System Folder. This one does the same thing when launched.

So I replaced Classic Startup.app with one from the instal DVD via Pacifist. Still no joy.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

You copied the system folder off the install disc??

I think you should just try installing Classic normally. My PowerBook came with two install DVDs. If you read them, one should list Classic or Mac OS 9.2.2. Try booting from that disc and installing Classic as it should be.

You should also try rebuilding your Classic desktop from System Preferences.

I'm assuming you used to be able to run Classic on this machine?

Classic hangs [SOLUTION]

Found the solution: Remove the DivXNetworks folder from Application Support and relaunch. Seems it's a 3-party conflict between DivX, 10.4, and Classic.
