Clean install of 11.3 query

I want to do a clean install of 11.3 I just redownloaded El Capitan from the App Store but it turns out to be 11.2. Is this normal for the latest version not being available this length of time after release?

It's for a computer that is not connected to the interwebs so I was hoping that a redownload would be up to date. Should I wait a bit longer, do you think Apple is going to make 11.3 available directly without having to download 11.2 and then update?

10.11.3 has been available as the full installer from the day the update was released. Delete the copy you have and redownload it.

If you download El Capitan from the App Store now, then it will be the latest released version, which will be 10.11.3
That was the version available, and has been there since the release date, likely within minutes of the release of that 10.11.3 update,.
If you Get Info on the installer app, that will show that the installer app is version 1.7.41 - and that is the one that installs that full version 10.11.3

I didn't see it was 11.2 till I burned it to a stick with diskmaker X5 and it labelled it 11.2, I deleted it and redownloaded and it still says 1.7.37

Yes, what you show is not the current version. Download again to get the current version.
So - you downloaded El Cap from the App Store, again? Today? And still got the previous version?
Odd - maybe some weirdness with the App Store in Oz ...

Go to your App Store again, go to the download and information page for El Capitan.
It SHOULD show the current version - 10.11.3 Updated Jan 19, 2016 - in the Information area on the right side of that page.
What version is reported on THAT information page?

OTOH, if you DON'T want to go through the long download again, just install what you already have (it's close enough!), then download and install the update through App Store. That will still be essentially a clean install, with a much shorter download.

This may sound strange, but have you tried restarting your computer after the download. I have found that sometimes El Capitan does not reliably show the new version number of an app until after a restart.

The created date of 3 December (actually 2 Dec. US) (first graphic) is the correct date for OS 10.11.2. The Created date of 14 January (actually 13 Jan. US) (second graphic) is the correct date for OS 10.11.3.

Ah, I see what you are getting at...
Yes, El Cap Finder is a little flaky about updating, and showing correct versions. But I have not ever seen El Cap show an incorrect version from within the Get Info window, more likely would be correct, or shows no version there at all, until Finder updates itself, which sometimes does mean a restart.
But, it would always be good anyway, after a simple restart, so worth asking about, I think.

Now that I look again at my El Cap installer app, it does in fact show the same Created date and time (adjusted for local time zone) for 10.11.3
Good idea @CoastalOR - OP should restart to (likely) see the correct version for the installer app.

I burned a new usb stick with diskmaker and it correctly showed 11.3, then i did a restart and the getinfo box is now showing 1.7.41 for the same install file. So there you go.

That was going to be exactly my recommendation! install what you have, chances are that if it's not the latest, the updates will become available and that's it. Don't complicate too much
