With new major OS releases, I normally do clean installs on devices I'm not replacing. I know how do clean installs of the OS. My question is there a way to do it without having to erase my iPad and restore iPadOS 16 first before upgrading/upgrade to iPadOS 17 then restore for clean install?

Can I download the new OS and have it whip my iPad and do a clean install at the same time?

Am I asking this question clearly? Lol

You’re going to have to wipe the device if you want a fresh install. If you don’t want to start over from scratch the best thing to do would be to update and make an iCloud backup of iPad OS 17. After you do that you can wipe the device and install a fresh copy of iPad OS 17 then restore from iCloud.
