The recovery partition seems to be gone in 10.10. I'd like to have a clean OS.

The recovery partition installer doesn't even work in Yosemite DP1.

Read the posts on the page in the link below, for instructions and info on how to create a Yosemite bootable USB:

Unfortunately I don't have a USB drive left for doing so. Isn't it possible to get the recovery partition back?

To the best of my knowledge, unfortunately, no.

Your best bet is to try not to do anything on your computer that would warrant the need for the recovery drive, until you can get hold of another USB drive so that you can create a bootable USB.

Theoretically, Yes.

Just follow the instructions and info in that page I linked, but use the partition you create, instead of a USB.

I managed to create the partition now, but my Mac refuses to boot from it. Other people also seem to have trouble with creating a bootable USB drive in the thread you posted.

Make sure you are actually mounting the BaseSystem.dmg file, and using the mounted volume as the restore source, and not the .dmg itself.

Disk Utility can be very temperamental when it comes to restoring.

If all else fails, I'll make a .dmg of my working Yosemite bootable USB installer, and upload it somewhere, that you can then download and use to restore.

Put the DMG on external disk upgrade and after the upgrade you can boot from that disk..

When I run the installer my internal drive does not even show up...

Jb2k - The point of this whole thread is that the OP doesn't have access to an external drive.

jmazzamj - Are you using an external drive to boot the installer, or are you running the installer from your main hard drive?

I found a working (but annoying) solution. I created a new partition and installed OS X 10.10 there, then I formatted Macintosh HD and launched the OS X installation from there. After that I removed the second partition.

Congratulations. Where there's a will, there's a way!

You install OS X to Macintosh HD from your external OS X installation. You can then use your external OS X installation as some sort of a Recovery HD.

Did you format it? (Sorry for my late answer)
