Clean install OS X Yosemite - what is the best way?

Hey,

Pls. guide me

I would like to make a clean install to my MBA. What is the best solution to do it?

I'm running Mavericks now. I was going to do a "internet recovery" and install the Mountain Lion first which is factory installed on my mac, and then usb install if I will find a guide to build it. Or is there a better solution how to make a clean install? Pls. tell me - Yosemite will be launch soon so I'm really want to hear what I need to do here

MacRumors (and other Mac sites) will normally post instructions on how to create a USB install drive to do a clean install shortly the Apple event ends.

To prepare, do a Time Machine backup (or copy your Documents, Music, Movies and Pictures folders to an external hard drive). Make sure you have serial numbers for any software you have to download and install separately.

If you're using something like Adobe's Creative Cloud, sign out of it before you do a clean install.

IIRC, from the DP and PB, you can use the same method that was used from Mavericks to create the USB installer.

You don't have to make a USB stick if you don't want to. I've done two fresh installs over the internet.

The only thing I'd do is wait until Yosemite is out and download it so it's purchased. You can then stop the download if you want. I'm not sure that matters but I always make sure it's in my App Store purchases.

Doesn't that method just access your Recovery partition?
In that case he would be reinstalling Mavericks when he wants to install Yosemite.

Hmm now I'm not sure haha. I know since Lion there is an internet recovery method of installing the OS. It lets you access the App Store and download. BUT I'm not 100% sure if it will update you if you have a previous version.

BUT, if you are running the latest GM of Yosemite or Beta I'm sure it will with no issues.

That would work but that isn't what the guide he linked said to do.
His link was just instructions for accessing the recovery partition.

I personally wouldn't bother, most people seem to have this clean install hang over from coming off a Windows system that seems to fall apart after about 6 months of use.

Unix is a lot more solid and reliable. I've updated all systems without any issues, i've also bought new computers most years with fresh installs on and seen no benefit to it. Same with linux systems, no benefit to fresh installs with them either.

The only time id ever consider it is if you really are having system problems at some point, but id upgrade first and see before you waste an entire day doing a fresh install then copying files across for no benefit what so ever.
