I'm looking to do a 100% clean install.

I followed the instructions here: http://akufu.com/clean-install-os-x-10-10-yosemite

I have a working USB bootable drive however after I boot and install, it does is as an upgrade. I want all the files gone and start from scratch.

I'm obviously missing something but not exactly what it is, perhaps someone can shed some light?

Once you have a working bootable USB of yosemite, you need to format the drive first before installing it.

When you boot up from the usb with the option key, use Disk Utility to erase the drive and format it as Mac OS Extended (Journalled).

Note that this will delete everything on the computer.

Then you can install Yosemite on it to make a clean install.
