Hello,

After I was successful doing a clean install of Yosemite on my wife's Macbook Pro (my 1st time doing it) I felt encouraged and want to do the same to my Mac mini which is a bit buggy. Now the problem are

1. It's connected to a TV through HDMI
2. The keyboard and trackpad are wireless

All of these spelled disaster in my Windows days. The BIOS part will not recognise TV, so never do a clean install with a TV. Always connected to a monitor. Likewise for wireless keyboard and mouse. It wouldn't know. You have to have them wired.

With Mac, can I do it?

What model of Mac mini do you have? If your machine is compatible, your Yosemite install should be a walk in the park.

I suggest that you use a bootable USB 3.0 drive as an installation tool. To keep things simple, I always disconnect external drives and other extras before beginning the install process.

You can find plenty of installation tip in these forums but here are a couple of links that I have used in the past.

What brand are your wireless accessories? You could find or borrow a wired keyboard for insurance but I have never needed one for my 2012. If you are careful and do your homework, that Mac should see the wireless controls and connect automatically from the start. Experience has shown that iPads and other Bluetooth (BT) devices will compete with your Mac for the BT keyboard and mouse. You need to ensure that devices like your cell phone and your wife's MacBook don't link to the controls before your mini.

You are not in Kansas (Windows) any more!

Yes. I have a 2012 Mac mini with wireless keyboard and mouse, connected via HDMI to my TV. I upgraded to Yosemite with no problems, the installation routine detected the wireless peripherals and HDMI works right from the boot screen.

Thank you for a thorough reply. My Mac mini is 2012 model. I intend to do a clean install via USB thumb drive. And the keyboard and trackpad are all Apple's. The TV is Sharp AQOUS Quattron model.

Thank you. That's encouraging. I of course have asked a genius at the store and he said the same thing but I couldn't believe him. I thought he's nut. Lol.
