Clean installation of ML GM and Lion time machine backup?

Hello.

If I backup Lion and clean install ML GM can I then use migration assistant to restore my Lion backup (user account/applications etc.) or are time machine backups not compatible between each version?

They're compatible, but I don't see why you'd do a clean install just to restore from that "dirty" backup.

I guess I will just directly upgrade to ML then and backup the entire thing once done.

noob question:

i want to do the same when it releases but I've only backed up my pics, music, music library, docs, videos, iPhone/iPod apps to TM.

no system files.

this won't pollute ML will it?

That's how I do it. Keep all you personal stuff and the reimport it via iPhoto. iTunes, put the documents back into the documents. Install your new software again and update everything.

I have all my personal stuff on another drive and just let the system stuff sit on the main one.

That is pretty much what I want to do, clean install of ML and just migrate my documents, apps and settings from my latest Lion backup.
