I have a "fully upgraded" 4,1 Mac Pro that I would like to do a clean install of Mojave. I was running Mojave on it before, but after tinkering around with OpenCore, I gave up and would just like to go back to a nice clean 10.14.6.

I no longer have any Mojave disks for this computer.

What's the best path? Do I need to start with High Sierra and the old Graphics Card with boot screen? Then swap in my RX480, and upgrade to Mojave? Thanks for any answers. I'm kicking myself for not saving a Mojave disk, but that's where I'm at.

No prob, just a couple extra steps. Either use another computer to DL Mojave from:

and create a bootable USB installer from it & use that, or start by installing H.S. first, but then go to the above site, DL Mojave, and create a bootable USB installer, and install it clean anyway. It’s a little irritating to have to install a whole OS just to build the bootable USB thumbie, but it fits on an 8GB, so I just leave one with that installer on it so I can blow it away and redo any time some software starts acting up, which, given the nature of my work, is about every couple weeks.

Other than Screen Sharing breaking & never getting fixed, Mojave really is the last OS Apple made before they just started slashing & burning functionality & compatibility left & right.

I made a Mojave USB installer - but don't I need a boot screen to install? I have the original graphics card for a boot screen... but it's non-metal. My RX480 is non-flashed, so no boot screen but it IS metal.

To avoid complications, I would just install the older card to get it installed. Its'easy to pop in. For temporary stuff like that I leave the PCIE bracket off during the interim running.

I will probably start a new thread as I may need additional help, but I am finding myself in a position where I need a bootable Mojave USB installer.

Is there any problem with using a USB3.0 device? It is a Mac Pro 4,1, upgraded CPUs and RAM, but still the stock USB2.0 sockets.

I ask because I am getting the white circle with the line through it about half way of the USB installer loading. It is a USB3.0 device.

Yeah... I broke down and went into the basement and dug through my ancient graphics cards and cable adapters and got High Sierra installing with the original Apple card.

It's been a while since I've installed Mojave over High Sierra on the Mac Pro - do I just install the Metal Graphics card then download the Mojave installer and double click from within MacOS? I know I won't have a boot screen through the process, but I just let it do its thing for a few hours - right?
