The drive caddy sleds on my old 2008 cMP have some bad corrosion from man-handling drives in and out over the 12 years so I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on cleaning it off without nasty etching or other significant discoloration of the aluminum.

Hi,

*** Rmeove any power cables connected to the MP before starting ***
*** If you can- remove the power supply connectors to the main board ***
Best would be to first wipe or scrub it with vinegar (distilled white vinegar)- remember to scrub or wipe and don't spill any as you'd need to clean it later on and the smell is awful

Let it seat for couple of minutes- this will start "eating" the corrosion. you can use a toothbrush the scrub it

Afterwards use a 99% alcohol to clean it. If you can spill some on the place that would be great. Let is seat for about 30 seconds and then start brushing it with a toothbrush

Let it dry and walla you should see the results

Gave this a shot. It got rid of the "dark" corrosion. There's still corroson, but not as noticeable as before; it's good enough for now!
