New keyboard is really nice...but cleaning the the keys is a pain in the as_. Unlike previous clear plastic keys that could be wiped with a moist cloth, the new keys seem to be some sort of porous rubber. Cleaning everyday tactile dirt is close to impossible...some comes out, but a smudge is always left.

Any ideas?

TIA

Cleaning the new slim keyboard...

I recently spilled snapple over the right side of my keyboard, making almost all of the keys to sticky to type with. I didnt clean it for a few days other than using a papertowel to dry and it kept getting worse and worse. It was really pissing me off being that the keys that were the worst were the backspace and return keys. I finally took my keyboard to the kitchen and wiped it for about 5 minutes with a wet rag and the results were amazingThe keys arent perfect but there is a significant difference, so before you go prying the keyboard open or popping keys off, (by the way i dont recommend this on the new keyboards) wipe it with a wet towel. You'd be surprised ed at the difference it can make.

Update

Sort of by chance, I just found out that you can clean the keyboards with a pencil eraser. It works like a charm!

Pencil eraser FTW

A white pencil eraser works like a charm. Erase the grime off the keys, and then use a moist cloth to clean any dirt off the aluminum (unplug the keyboard and wipe it down). Within 10 minutes your keyboard will look brand new! -=:apple:

I've noticed that the new slim keyboards tend to get less dirty than the old style. My old keyboard was constantly dirty and it bothered me, but I haven't noticed any dirt on the new style keyboards.

Dirty People

Why would you touch your baby with dirty hands?

Try washing your hands before using your computer instead of eating Cheeto's or KFC and computing at the same time. This will keep your keyboard shiny and your mouse ball rolling properly.

Problem solved.
:)

P.S. The tone of this message was meant to be playful. Not condescending. After I read it, I realized it came off that way. Oops!

i just throw mine in the dishwasher when it gets dirty. Works like a charm. Just give it a day until you plug it in.
