cleaning out original photos?

i have iphoto 2 (i know, i know) on my ibook running osx 10.4.2. for some reason, when i go into my iphoto library in my home folder, and i look at any particular picture, i see that there's both the current picture and the original. is there any way to delete the originals, thus saving me almost a gigabyte of space?

I remember using a program called "iPhoto diet". I don't know if it still exists or where to download, but if you do a search on it you should be able to download it. It was free the last time I used it.
