I reviewed my iTunes Genres and found over 66 different categories. For example I found "Electronica / Dance" and "Dance / Electronica". I re-categorized all the songs, but the old Genres continue to show up in the list. Any thoughts on how to clean up the drop down list to remove the old Genres I no longer need? Thanks!

What I do is sort by genre and then change the tag on the songs that don't match the categories on iTMS.

For example, I import a CD (lets say 50 cent) and the songs come up as Hip Hop/Rap. The iTMS category is Hip-Hop/Rap. So I manually change all of my Hip Hop/Rap music to Hip-Hop/Rap.

This will effectively delete the Hip Hop/Rap genre from all drop down lists. Just make sure you get all of them, if you have one song with that genre tag, then it'll still show up.

re: Cleanup Old iTunes Genres?

Thanks for your reply. I tried that, but when I select "Get Info" and go to the song information, the drop down still has all the old Genres. I have sorted all my songs by Genre and do not find any song with the old Genre. One more thing - I am running iTunes on my PC and plan to move it to my Mac Mini, but I was trying to clean it up first.

I'm not completely sure, but I think there are several genres that can't be deleted. They are default genres or such.
