Clear History problem in Yosemite Safari

I just went to the menu bar to clear my History in Yosemite Safari and its says doing this will Clear History, Cookies and Website data. What the hell?? I only want to clear the History not enter passwords and **** all day long. Does anyone know what to do about this?

Found this and it seems to work.

It's easy;
History, Show History, Select Edit, Select All and hit the delete key.

Great work around but what happens with the Safari Preference Settings which on my machine was checked as Remove after one month by default? Is it just going to clear the history or everything else with it. What a mess.
