I want to clean out my phone pretty much by restoring it, but now with 3.1 and all I can't do that. The main thing I want to do is uninstall all the cydia packages i have and start fresh without a bunch of useless junk. Is there anything that can do this for me, or will I have to go in one by one and uninstall everything?

I am confused. How do you have cydia on 3.1?
And why cant you just restore? It will clean out all the cydia apps if you do that.

I don't have 3.1. I'm saying that due to 3.1 being released, you can no longer restore to an earlier version of 3.x. I would like to restore and then jailbreak again (i.e. Not upgrading to 3.1) but because I can't do this I'm looking for a way to clear out the installed packages

<i think i have posted wrong thread> hoops

hi lads, i have a SIM Free iPhone from New Zealand. JB. never had to run ultrasn0w on it on 3.0

Would Redsn0w 0.8 jailbreak work for 3.1?

i suppose as it is sim free, it doesn't matter to the CPU-ware as it is "free"?

any ideas?

OP: So... Right now you are running 3.0 and just want to clean your phone of jailbreak?

You CAN just restore to a 3.0 IPSW...

You just hold Alt or whatever when you click restore and it will let you chose any IPSW. Download one for 3.0 or use the one you had when you JB'd your phone on 3.0.

You can't restore a 3GS to anything other than 3.1. So no 3.0.

You are going to have to do this manually, so to speak, go into Cydia and uninstall each package. I'd start with the applications and then move to the MS-related stuff.

Don't forget to manually remove your apps from categories and the SBSettings dock/Poof.

Then go into User>Library>Preferences and clear those files out.

After that, using sFTP or a phone browser, look around for extra files you can delete.

Is going to be helkpful if you just copy your themes folder(s) over so when you reinstall WB, assuming you do, you can just drop them over and you have everything you need easy.

Why would the 3Gs not be able to be restored to anything other than 3.1? 3.1 wasn't even out when the phone was released. How did people ever restore their phones if they had problems with a 3Gs? What could possibly prevent a 3.0 phone from being restored to 3.0?

From my understanding, and its new so we're all learning about it, when you restore it checks Apple's servers for firmware validation, and they have stopped validating 3.0.(1). This is only on restore, not when syncing or connecting your phone to iTunes.

*sigh*

The same thing the Dev Team has been warning us about for weeks. All firmware uploaded to the iPhone 3GS has to be signed by Apple. If it isn't signed by Apple, then it won't upload. These signature files (the iBEC and iBSS you may have heard of) are can only be created by iTunes after verifying the software with Apple's servers. On Wednesday, Apple stopped signing 3.0.x firmware, making it no longer possible to downgrade a 3GS from 3.1 or to restore to anything but 3.1.

Those of us who heeded the warnings and captured our iBSS and iBEC files may be able to restore 3.0 when the new version of PwnageTool is released. But for now we are stuck hoping that our phones don't need a restore before that time.

OP: just go into Cydia and under Manage>Packages delete anything you've installed. Be careful not to delete packages that were automatically installed when you jailbroke.

Oh wow... They got clever. Glad I have a 3G :D Sorry OP. I'm sure you could just use Aptbackup to create a list of all the packages and then create a .sh script to uninstall those apps without using Cydia.
