I use the Notification Center all the time.

When I get a text/imessage, I read it and clear it from within Notification Center. Why can't it automatically clear the badge on the Message app as well?

I hate having to open the message app just to clear the badge. You think Apple would have thought of a setting like that no?
 
Apple did think of that setting.

No you're not . . . I think I see what you may be saying.

If I get a banner message in the notification center, and I clear that message, the badge still remains on the "messages" icon/app until you open the "messages" app. When the message is cleared on the badge, I think the badge should also be cleared.

Staccato83's solution does not display the badge at all on incoming messages.

This, I wish that clearing the NC got rid of badges since you have essentially acknowledged the notification.
