I'm hearing a clicking noise, as if it is trying to switch gears but not catching. I originally got a B-Tree node error, saw the falshing question mark, attempted Data Rescue, but have not had any luck retreiving data. I have two hard drives, master & slave, and Data Rescue sees Slave HD 2, but not HD 1 with application and important data. Does clicking noise mean HD is shot? Or can I reinstall operating system on HD 2 and try to retrieve data from HD 1? I am taking both HD's out and reinstalling them, seeing if it is a bad connection before I go on. any suggestions?

Clicking noises normally mean that a hard disk is dead or dying. If you do not have backups take them now if at all possible.
I took out the slave drive, tried the master drive with the other date cable and power supply. Then, following instructions on the Western Digital website, I tried starting up with only power supply attached, and data cable unattached. I heard only five clicks (instead of 10 clicks, pause, 10 clicks...). It started up from disk, but still didn't see drive. Then I powered down and tried to restart, now when I press the button, it lights up, but the computer won't power up. Could the problem be that I'm not getting enough wattage to my computer? How would I check that -- just change outlets?
