Having issues with my Airpods, been getting this digital clicking sound in the left pod at random times and some instances it seems to activate Siri on my iPhone or as of today skips forward or back in my podcasts or music.
I can't manually replicate the click anyway on the airpod when it's in my ear so it's not like it's hitting off something it shouldn't.

I've contacted Apple for a replacement but wanted to see if others are having similar issues.

I’m having this issue. Right AirPods pro. Clicking just starts happening. It tends to stop the music and throw it out of noise cancelation or transparency. If I switch to “off” it works better. Tried resetting it. Didn’t help. Saw some other complaints about it.

guessing its just a bad pair.

They click very quietly when you operate the pinch controls. It sounds like the AirPods Pro think you're activating them which is why you're getting the clicks and they start doing things like skipping, pausing and switching mode.

They're faulty. Take them back for exchange.

So I took mine into Apple store. The genius was nice but wasn’t that helpful. It happened in front of him. And when it happens it switches from noise canceling to transparency. It’s like the switch is getting activated by itself.

he wanted me to try some reset stuff and switch the AirPods stem settings for a while. I had already reset them before. And the other thing didn’t seem helpful.

they didnt have replacements or stock anyway. I returned them and re ordered them online. Didn’t want to have to go through the support again And think it is a hardware issue.

Having a mare of time with support myself, but was able to get mine scheduled for a replacement. Just gotta wait for collection now. Seems this clicking must be a popular return as I got no query about resetting mine.

I have recently noticed that the clicking sound on the left ear is far more noticeable and louder than the right ear click. Is anyone experiencing this after the update as well? Soundwise seems pretty consistent both ears. Wondering if I'm tripping.

After the latest firmware update it messed up my airpod pros. I did a test with 3 airpods and could reproduce the clicking noise each time. Took them to the Apple store after getting no where with customer service though chat that there was an issue with the latest update. Didn't bother past that as none of them took it seriously at all. Apple has since finally pulled the firmware update, but the damage is already done for a lot of users. If they actually get that fixed I may get another pair but i've been using my Airpod 2's and I don't miss noise cancellation at all so we'll see.

The clicking noise can be reproduced on every pair of AirPod Pro's I had in testing by placing them in ear and slightly moving your head. Another is placing your index finger on the top edge of the AirPod while it is in your ear and this will cause the clicking noise to get louder and will be constant. I didn't have so much of an issue with sound level except when talking. When the clicking noise was there and you use the microphone feature it will cause massive feedback to the point where it spikes out causing a loud crack. Again something I was able to reproduce with Apple. These issues were not present in the past firmware when NC or Transparency were turned on. When these features are off these issues are non-existent.

I'm not noticing as much of an issue as yours on the new firmware. But I do definitely notice clicking volume (possibly volume drop) on the right ear. I was tripping and was afraid it's cause I dropped the right airpods on the carpet from standing height (ear to carpet). I'm guessing I'll have to wait for the firmware update to confirm. Chances of "volume damage" from a carpet drop is rare no? Like I said, I'm probably tripping.

I started noticing a hiss or a crackling sound on my right AirPod Pro; I took them to Apple today, they ran some tests and decided they needed to replace it; they don't have any stock so I have to wait for them to get them and then I'll get it replaced... kind of a bummer, they were fine just last week

I noticed the crackling sound a couple of weeks ago as well as massive distortion / feedback when I use the microphone - exactly as you describe above. Finally took them in to Apple store yesterday - took a bit of convincing before the Genius was convinced and could reproduce. Unfortunately, only had replacement in stock for one of them - and it's so bad having one good AirPod and one bad one. Hoping I don't have to wait for the second one too long.

I have another thread I posted regarding a similar issue. An almost static like popping or crackle sound when listening to podcasts. When I tested the issue, listening to the same spot on the podcast, I could not hear it when listening through my car's speakers or when listening through the phone's speakers, so I assumed it was the APP. A few days later, as I was going to take my APP in for an appointment at the Apple Store, I listened to that exact episode and the noise was gone.

I did replaced the APP, and all seemed fine. However, this morning, I listened to a new episode of the podcast and the noise was back. I was listening to the podcast through the ESPN App. I decided to switch to another podcast app, and listened to the exact same podcast episode, and the noise was gone.

It appears my specific issue is either the App itself, or the iPhone having trouble with that App.

I got my replacement right APP in about a week; so far so good. It sounded like a popped mic or something like that. I hope just replacing one it’s fine and that the left one won’t start messing up!!

I've just picked up my third pair having returned my second due to the popping issue occurring in both ears with the replacements. Lets see how the third set goes.

Well it's pretty fair to say that the quality control on the APP is shocking. Third pair in the space of two weeks, The first two with sound quality issues and now the third pair is having problems with the left pod randomly not connecting, no sound and getting the red exclamation mark. As much as I love them both for the sound and the noise cancelling qualities, they're just too flaky to be useful. Not sure it's worth trying again or giving them a miss.

Here’s hoping the next firmware update resolves a lot of the issues on these boards. Unfortunately it seems like Apple once again has amazing hardware crippled by failing software. In the wake of iOS13 and Catalina issues, this does not inspire confidence.

Hey guys,

I guess I found a possible solution. At least, it worked for me.

I was having the same problem and I've had my share of research on the internet and also found that many others were having the same problem too, even people who got them replaced at Apple were experiencing the same issue with the new unit. So I learned that the clicking noise only happens when in noise-cancelling mode and transparency mode so I knew then my AirPods Pro weren’t broken but something was definitely wrong with whatever sensors responsible for enabling noise-cancelling and transparency. So out of curiosity, I removed the ear tip of my right pair which is the one I was having the clicking issue with. I got both of them in my ears, one with the ear tip and the right pair without the ear tip and I played some music. Both sides were playing and to my surprise, the clicking noise stopped! So I concluded that there must be something wrong the airflow of the right AirPod. I had the medium size on, so I exchanged it with the large one in the box. I attached it, put them both again in my ears, played music, and boom, the clicking noise stopped on my right pair with the large ear tip. I am not really sure how or why but it worked, so try and let me know!

Gah. Started having this issue with my left AP today as well. Definitely something to do with noise cancellation. If I just have them in with no sound playing and I turn my head there will be a distinct chirping/clicking in the left AP. If I listen to podcasts it is constant. Tried replacing/cleaning the tips to no avail.

Thanks for that. This happened to my APPs and I think you have hinted on how to fix it. I don’t really want to change the eartip size. I am on medium.

Simply removing the eartips and putting them back on again fixed it!

Maybe they just come a bit loose after prolonged use and just need to be reattached.

I've had this. Assume it's a software glitch as putting the AirPod in the case and then putting it back in my ear always resolves it.
