Uneasysilence created a web tool called Clipalizer which essentially allows you to create custom icons for any website.
With Clipalizer you can easily create your own custom webclip icons for your favorite sites. All you need to do is visit Clipalizer put in your favorite sites name and URL and upload a 57×57 PNG icon. Clipalizer will then give you a shortened URL to plug into your iPhone which will then allow you to select your custom webclip. That custom link that you made will stay alive forever so you can always enjoy your custom icon.
This custom link is simply a redirect that also houses your customicon so the iPhone/iPod touch will use your custom icon. They promise that the service is free and private, with no personally identifiable information being collected.

Awesome, I'm going to try this out now. Custom icons rule! :D

Update: This works pretty great! Here's what I made with mine. :) I also included a .zip archive of the icons I used if you'd like to use the same ones. The Google icon is the default however, so no icon is needed for that. :D

Limey, love the icons! Love the MR one. Would you take a generic request that others may or may not use?

Some sort of Movie-centric one? (I use fandango, but a simple movie-ish icon would work for anyone's movie link, no?)

Strange, I don't get any custom icon from Google (for my iPod touch, there's no Google on the home screen by default). I'm talking about the apple-touch-icon.png file directly from Google, not the Clipalizer service.

An Engadget poster gave directions of how to create your own web clip icon for ur own website. You place it at the root of your site just like a favicon. This option works as well, but will not give your site's visitors the chance to automatically add your custom icon.

Don't really know where exactly the article is in Engadget (and with iPhone lack of copy / paste -arrrrrrghhhh-), but it is just 1 or 2 days old.

I would appreciate any assistance with clipalizer or hsicon. I import my web address & name correctly, but on hsicon I get the page bookmarked witht he purple star thing, but after I load the site I wanted the icon I uploaded doesn't show ? Please help.

Noticed a Gallery on site now

Gallery is up on the site, large collection growing by the hour. Definitely going to try some out, they all look really nice and clean.

Also gives you the choice to make your web clip icons / links private or public. Nice resource.

Clipalizer question

How do I make a 57x57 pixel png file. I have a jpeg logo of my iweb site and I have converted to a png. I've tried to make the logo as small as possible, but Clipalizer tells me the file / image is too large. Can anyone guide through the step by step process to get a 57x57 png? Any help would be greatly appreciated.....

open it up in something like micro$oft picture viewer...hit export...change the file type to png, resize to 57x57...(crop it square first if you need to)

works pretty well, but I have uploaded a few that end up with someone else's links attached to my photo...annoying as hell...

Folks,

Get astupid reply like this even after I upload a valid image file!

"That does not appear to be a valid image file :( "

Help

Make sure it's 57x57 pixels and that it's a .png file. I had some trouble with it also, but when I realized it was the .png issue, everything works great.

All Users With Ie Issues Clipalizer

I just used Netscape navigator and worked perfectly... same file. Not sure what the issue is - but it seems like an issue with some builds of Internet explorer...FYI

size

how do i make them into a 57x57 size??

Most graphics applications (Photoshop, GraphicCoverter) can save files as PNG files. If you already have an icon in the right size you can even use Preview to save that image as a PNG file. :)

what about on a Mac?

Problem

As of today all of my Clipalizer webclips no longer work......they open to the clipalizer page that says "last step..............click "Add to Home Screen".......but even if I do that the NEW webclip opens to the same page. Is anyone else having this problem???? I am wondering if it is a problem on the clipalizer end or somthing on my phones side. Can anyone check a Clipalizer webclip from their phone and let me know what happens......PLEASE. Thanks in advance for any help.

as of today, IT WORKS

don't know why you are having problems,
I have an '08 iMac with photoshop and aperture2 on it, worked like a charm...
then downgraded to my wifes macbook POS, running firefox and iPhoto and got it to work like a charm, then for the tru tru POS my wifes godforsaken Dell inspiron that is on its last life, with firefox, and windows paint (YUUCK) and it still worked, the only way I couldn't get any of the following computers to do it was if i didn't properly get the dimensions to 57x57 perfectly..:D

keep trying guys/gals, i got it to work no problems, love the website now, clipalizer you're my hero
