Clipping Path way wrong around??

I had to do a cutout (PshopCS2) on a friends machine (G5quad-10.4.6) the other day, for some reason the path looks ok but when bring in the image to any DTP package, the inverse part comes in and theres a hole where the cut-out should be.

It also does the same when the path is selected in Pshop – it selects the region outside the cut-out??

Has anyone come across this before and is there a proper fix? (other than selecting the inverse of what I just cut-out and making a path of that of course!)

Most DTP packages have the ability to invert the clipping path; or more accurately, apply the clipping paths' settings to its inverse... wait, that doesn't much better but I think you know what I mean.

Can't see the problem here.

It's a Photoshop 'gotcha', you have drawn the path with the subtract path mode selected. Select arrowed mode instead.

No probs glad to help. I used to think that compound paths couldn't be done in photoshop. To do them you draw the main path in normal add mode then change to subtract mode and draw the compound bit. Same as you'd do for a selection. But on a selection you cannot start in negative mode as you can on a path. Weird.
