My first problem with my iPad. It isn't staying on the correct time. I will be on it for a few hours and it will suddenly be several hours behind. Also had the wrong time when I turned it on this morning.

No wonder why they didn't include the clock app! :D

Correct time zone?

Also, is it off by hours and minutes? Or just offset by hours?

(Check the time settings in Settings > General > Date & Time

Someone else had this problem recently here.

Final note: the total amount of 'lost' time seems to correspond to the time my iPad was turned off (i.e., in sleep, not actually shut down) but not plugged in. Surely that can't be working as intended, heh.

It's not the timezone. The loss of time is a random amount. You can't equate it with time zones etc. Sounds like software to me.

So it doesn't seem to correspond with the iPad being turned off or anything like that?

It doesn't. When I got up this morning and turned it on it was on the wrong time. I reset it and then tonight it was about an hour and a half off again. So I've reset it a second time. Been an Apple user for many years and I've never had this type of a problem.

Losing Time

My iPad is also suffering from not being able to keep the correct time. Reset the time twice last night and this morning it was off by 56 minutes???

I'm the person who had posted about this before. It never recurred again after I posted, and frankly i forgot about it, but I'll keep an eye on it. Hopefully by now someone else has contacted apple.

Does the clock use internet info to keep on time, or just some on-board timer pulse? It's possible an iPad with no WiFi access would have trouble if it needed the web to keep on time. A clock using some on-board pulse might get screwed up as the battery state change, the screen brightness was changed, or any other processor-intensive task ensued.

But it's an Apple? Surely they engineered the iPad clock better than having it tied to a change in the battery state? screen brightness? connectivity?

If connectivity was an issue you would think that once it was 'online' again the clock would self-correct...

Sounds like a problem with the iPad not utilizing the quartz system to keep time properly. Hopefully it's a software problem.

Aha! Now we know where those claims of 10 hour + battery life are coming from.

Yes I'm kidding.

On a slightly more serious note - is there no way to tell it to pull the time from the intertubez?

This morning it was on the correct time, unlike yesterday. I will just watch it in the coming days and see what it going on with the clock.

Sounds to me like the iPad didn't originate in China as expected, but instead the same island LOST is located on

My iPhone does this!

Never quite figured out why......

I missed a meeting, I woke up in the morning, overslept, because my alarm never went off due to my iPhone changing times somehow...

So i reset it, the time back to normal. The next morning the same thing happened...

Mine suddenly started losing time overnight. It seems to maintain while powered, but it drops quickly while on battery.

I know this isn't a solution but it worked for me...

My son let the iPad fall from the sofa to the floor which is carpeting. After that, the clock is keeping great time. It's been over a week.

Perhaps someone has hacked the web source for time signals. We've gotten to rely perhaps way to much on it (them?) that the whole economy might be affected. There. That's my conspiracy theory for today. :D

Just started losing time in the last couple of days

My iPad has been working fine for the past few weeks, but now it's caught the dreaded "Lost Time" disease. Resets to correct time if I plug it in to iTunes.

Tonight, never having done it before, lost an hour. Strange thing was I sent it to sleep for an hour so I could watch TV. When i turned it back on I noticed it was just over an hour out!

I am going to try reinstalling the firmware via iTunes. Note that I am not jailbroken.

It happened again last night. The time coincided with him playing with the Princess and The Frog book from Disney. We had just purchased it and it was the first time he used it.

I turned off the iPad completely and turned it back on. Time was restored.

I guess like most, I've been having this issue since I got my iPad (april 3rd) and its always bothered me, but I never wanted to make a new thread about this, but I'm glad someone did.

up until a few days ago, its always been off by 30-60 seconds compared to my iPhone (MacBook, iMac) but now for the past 3 days nights (between 8pm-10pm) it will be off by 20-40 minutes.
