Cloning Spare Drives

I have an older back up drive with my documents, files, media etc on a 250GB IDE drive inside an enclosure and i also have a blank 750GB Sata in an enclosure. now im wondering the best method to get the 200GB worth of data of the 250 to the 750 (which are both formatted for windows NTFS).

Can i do something like SuperDuper in Leopard?
Transfer the 250 to a designated folder on the 750?

as i have 2- 250's i need to clone/back up to newer Sata drives.


any recommendation or tips.
the only way ive transferred my files from one drive to the next was with WesternDigital's Data Lifegaurd tools under XP, where it just copies to the exact directory you point to it. file by file. similar to a drag-n-drop.

If both drives are NTFS you'd be best to do this under Windows. OSX cannot write to NTFS.

You can try installing MacFUSE and NTFS3G to add NTFS writing compatibility

well that is what im trying to figure out, the best way to transfer/clone from the 250 Source to a spot on the 750 under XP.

i assume just a folder to folder copy would suffice?

For the best experience, you need to have both external drives at USB 2.0 configuration, connected to a decent PC with XP or Vista on USB 2.0 ports.

Then drag trees of folders from the source to the destination drive. If the system is 'rock solid', you can drag the whole source file structure to the destination and sit back and wait. However, if Windows finds a fault and stops the copy, you will be left with a mess. For this reason, I would advise trees of folders so the manual clean won't be too bad if you experience a halt in the copy process.
