I just bought a MacBook Pro and one thing which frustrates me is that when I close the lid it automatically disconnects me from the internet. I prefer to keep iChat running but I can not find a way to keep the internet connected. Any help?

Keep in mind however that using InsomniaX frequently is gonna wreck havoc on your battery and computer life since your computer never goes to sleep and is constantly running hot.

On my other laptops I close the screen all the time while they are doing stuff so the screen lasts longer (maybe just in my head) and better battery life. But since we got the 17" MBP I noticed this put them to sleep so now i just turn off the lcd using the brightness button and close the lid leaving about an inch open so it doesn't go to sleep and doesn't over heat.

I wouldn't say so. It's not like just running iChat with the screen off draws the same load as playing WoW while listening to iTunes and burning a CD. He's probably running it on AC, too, so I don't think battery life is going to be affected.

Yea most of the time it's with the ac in, but if I'm going room to room, or want to save some space I'd like to close it while not signing off.

It is true that it would be bad to run the laptop non stop forever, but i mean thats never going to happen and still is not that bad...

As for heat issues, i personally think the whole heat issue is a load of nothing *except ibooks* because all other machines were designed for clamshell mode in one way or another
