Suppose I have lots and lots of files open. I want to close all of them except one. Is there a way without manually closing each one at a time?

Tap cmd+w until all windows close. Re-open the window you want. =)

Otherwise, i don't know of any options like this.

Cmd+option+W is Close All.

Also, hold down option modifier and click a window's red close widget.

Don't know of any "except one" modifier.
