Sup.

Just got an external display to use with my MBP. How do I close the lid on the MBP without putting the display to sleep? Can't find anything in prefs.

Thanks.

1 close MBP
2 plug monitor in
3 open mbp
that should work
or do you want to close it while running and leave the mbp display on?

if you close the lid while running the display will turn off /i think and just
the external will run

I want to run the cinema display and not the display on the MBP. Basically, I want the MBP to be like a Mac Mini when a display is connected.

Right now, when I close the lid on the MBP the mac goes to sleep. I want it to stay awake and use the external display.

1. open the mbp
2. plug in the external monitor
3. close the mbp
4. let it sleep
5. plug in the keyboard/mouse
6. wake it up with the click of the mouse
7. should work now! And in closed mode works much faster than using dual mode! :)

Its separate with the brightness, I can control the 23" ACD's brightness with the external keyboard but the brightness on the mbp side I have to turn it down with its own brightness keys.

1. open the mbp
2. plug in the external monitor
3. close the mbp
4. let it sleep
5. plug in the keyboard/mouse
6. wake it up with the click of the mouse
7. should work now! And in closed mode works much faster than using dual mode! :)

this is what the OP is looking for. it's called clamshell mode.
