Is there anyway to close the macbook without putting it to sleep??

Thanks!!

The Apple-approved way involves adding an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

There are third-party applications like SleepLess and InsomniaX that do what you're looking for, but the latest update to OS X 10.4.8 broke those apps...I don't think a workaround has been found yet.

I think theres an app called Sleepless that does this. Try Google or Version Tracker

I'm reasonably sure that simply adding an adapter to the DVI port will do the trick... as your MB came with one (IIRC), just try that. I don't think you need a monitor to be plugged in (or a KB/mouse). Of course, I could be completely wrong!

At the very least, it's a quick and simple check.

The MacBook doesn't come with the Mini DVI adapter. :(

Ah. My bad. I do know that my MBP seems to treat a connected adapter as implying a second monitor, regardless of whether one is connected, so, if anyone can verify this with an MB, it might be worth the cost of an adapter if the OP needs this functionality and doesn't want to risk 3rd party SW constantly breaking things.

or close the lid and unplug something in the usb ports
(preferably something that can safely be removed, i know my wireless mouse does the trick)
