Cloud backup solutions

I'm having a concern that I have no backups for 12TB of files since 2008. So I'm trying to back up everything on Backblaze and Google drive.

I'm going to pay for Backblaze and Google drive offers unlimited space thanks to my previous school. I will be going to buy a few HDD in real life as an option.

But I wonder if it's ok to back up all files on Google drive or not? Backblaze and Google drive wont be the prime backups and I dont need to access them again unless I need to. I just wanna backup all filled HDD for long term storage.

Backblaze works really well for me. It just runs constantly in the background so everything is constantly backed up as long as it is attached to your Mac. Downloading individual items is easy and you can pay for a hard drive to be sent to you if you have a major failure. It is well worth the money for the peace of mind.

I've no experience of Google Drive but assume this would be a manual backup?

I also use Backblaze, and I've been quite happy with it, too. I haven't needed to use it, thankfully, but it is good to know it is there if I do.

Another satisfied Backblaze user here. I have a Mac Mini with an external drive where all my RAW file are stored, and Backblaze continuously backs them up. I also have said external drive shared so I can connect my Macbook Pro to it and transfer photos after photo outings / shoots.

So far I have lost almost 5 gb of data with cloud backups. Don't count on their “backups” to restore your data when things go amiss. Not Backblaze.

“Not Backblaze”. Never used them.

Sorry about an anecdotal comment but at a recent MS developer's conference on their enterprise side, people generally laughed at the notion cloud and backup go together. Everyone had either had issues or knew of someone who had issues with cloud storage. Irrespective of what service. That’s where I learned these services are for convenience, not security.

I lost 5 gig the provider (iCloud) could not restore. I don’t need to participate in more experiments.

I keep multiple local backups of my photos and documents. I also keep a copy at work. I also use a cloud backup, after seeing the flooding of homes due to storms and the firestorms in the west, I figure a $60 a year is a good investment in backup. I like to follow the 3 2 1 backup rule.
