I just purchased a new MacBook laptop and have no idea on how to go about getting wireless internet for it. On my regular iMac I have DSL set up and I want to know what I need to buy in order to have simultaneous internet access to both computers, and also so that both can use the internet at the same time without any conflicting traffic or lagging. In order for my laptop to go wireless, does my desktop iMac have to go wireless, too? I don't know if this provides enough information, but if you could help me out with anything you can tell me that would be wonderful. I have no idea where to start. Thanks.

If you want your iMac to still use the non-wireless connection it has, then you need to get a wireless router from just about any other manufacturer than apple. If you want your iMac to go wireless, then you would probably be better off going with Apple's Airport Extreme Base Station.
By the looks of it, you want to keep your iMac corded, so then you want a generic Wireless Router. A trip to your local computer store would be all you need, tell them you want " an 802.11G Wireless router, with atleast one ethernet port to plug your iMac into"
the 802.11G part might be written on the box as 802.11g OR 802.11b/g OR 802.11a/b/g
Don't pay over $100 for one, and the instructions on how to set it up will be in the box
Both computers should connect to the internet automatically, but if they dont, just make a post on this forum detailing the problem

Most wireless routers have a few wired ports that you can plug your network cable into. This is the configuration that I have at home. I have networked printers and a desktop PC plugged into the wired ports while my MBP, Tivo, and XBox are wireless.

Quick and simple question: does your iMac have wireless? If so, then you can just turn on "internet connection sharing" and save yourself a small fistful of dollars.
If not, then a cheap wireless router will do you just fine. You don't need to spend a bunch of money, and many good options are available for under $40.
I've been partial to D-Link for the last few years, but everyone has their own opinion as to which makes/models are better.
