Hello guys

i installed yesterday successfully the latest version of Opencore and have now Mojave and Catalina installed on separate hard drives .

i followed the OpenCore on Legacy Apple Hardware installation process

but my issue is that i still don't have a boot screen , sadly .

my mac infos :

2010 Mac Pro dual-Xeon 12-core, 40GB RAM , Msi RX 580 8gb V1 , Mojave disk 1 , Catalina disk 2

opencore 0.5.8

Am i missing a step to be able to see the boot picker screen ?

is this the file you are looking for ? 😅

It looks like your video card's vbios was tweaked. You need to find the correct vbios from techpower and flashed it to your card.

may i ask , where do you see it was tweaked ?
Code:
03:929 00:062 OCC: GOP exists on ConsoleOutHandle and has 0 modes
03:971 00:042 OCC: Looking for GOP replacement due to invalid mode count
04:013 00:041 OCC: Alternative GOP status is - Not Found
04:055 00:042 OCC: Missing compatible GOP - Not Found
04:096 00:041 OC: Requested resolution is 0x0@0 (max: 1) from Max
04:138 00:042 OCC: Requesting 0x0@0 (max: 1) resolution, curr 0, total 0
04:179 00:041 OCC: No compatible mode for 0x0@0 (max: 1) resolution
04:222 00:042 OC: Changed resolution to 0x0@0 (max: 1) from Max - Not Found
04:263 00:041 OCC: Using builtin text renderer with 1 scale

i see , thank you for the insight

can i use Parallel desktop or any VM machine running windows to change the vbios , or do. have to run a bootable windows ?

so i flashed the vbios of my Rx 580 with TV809MH.L40 using native windows , but now i cannot access anything, it will give me a black or green or white screen when loading windows , my other drives for Mojave or catalina , it will not even load it 😢
[automerge]1589960023[/automerge]
and after giving me those colored screens , it goes back to restart . chime, 12sec Gpu noise , 20second my screen turn on and color screen for 10 sec then restart

by miracle my windows turned on, and reinstalled my previous vbios , now i'm back to square one . lol

RX580 has two BIOS installed with a switch, one standard that works with OpenCore and one Performance that does not (right side switch). By default is set to Performance, as soon as I set it to Standard (left side switch), bootpicker worked properly and I was able to see the boot screen.

You can see the tiny switch located under radiator fins, into picture I just took, try it on Left side like it is now:

Yeah, I think they call it gaming mode and mining mode. Users reported that only gaming mode can show boot screen, but the switch default at the mining mode position.

Hey just wanted to chip in here, had the same issue on my powercolor rx580, switched the bios from the right side to the left and bootpicker started showing up. Ill probably get around to reflashing when i set up windows again.

one other thing to note, my boot times were twice as fast into catalina after switching which i found quite odd

I also can't get BootPicker with cMP5,1.

Looking here, it seems that the RX 580 also needs a flash, does the msi Radeon RX 580 Gaming x 8G also need a flash?
This card does not have a mode switch.

However, it seems that Open Core is installed and running, and the configuration can be verify as follows.
Check the installation
  • Open Terminal
  • Check that OpenCore has actually booted the system by entering: nvram 4D1FDA02-38C7-4A6A-9CC6-4BCCA8B30102: opencore-version
You should see REL-061-2020-09-07.
  • Check the VMM flag by entering: sysctl machdep.cpu.features
You should see VMM (among other features).
And If you also enable Radeon BOOST, it will appear VBIOS in system profiler.

Anyway, I've done everything, but I can't get the BootPicker.
I think it's a little more, but this card need a flash?
Or is there any good way?

Legend, this actually bloody worked, so happy, I totally forgot about that switch, I had the same issue, flicked the switch and it works like a dream now. Thanks again,
