CMP 5.1 PCIE SLOT SSD RECOMEND

Hi

I currently find the brand new SM591 256g AHCI on my local store around $160,

And I would like to get one or two on my mac pro 5.1 as most of time using adobe software such as Illustrator, photoshop, Lightroom and office for daily work..

But I already brought the usb 3.0 x 4 port install on slot 4. so only have 2 slot left.. * slot 2 and 3.

My question is

1) Buy 2pcs of SM951 256g with raid 0, that might very helpful for the speed.
2) Only get 1 SM951 256g boot osx and buy the OWC Accelsior S for file?

Is there a reason you are set on PCIe over SATA? While sequential read/writes are faster, the gap for random read/write is much narrower. I would recommend saving your money and buying a 2x SATA 3 card

My cap almost 8 year and still work good but sometimes it can not handle the 80-150m file on illustrator or photoshop.
And straggle sometimes when edit photo file in raw format..

Therefore, I just upgrade my cmp CPU, ram and thinking to add some benefit on it..

SM951 in RAID 0 for what? I know it can give you super high sequential, but for what work flow? Do you really need that? Making RAID 0 will make thing complicated and reduce compatibility / reliability.

Also, if you go for plan 2. You better boot from the Accelsior S and use the SM951 for files. There is virtually no advantage to boot from SM951.

In my opinion you should avoid a Raid solution because of additional complicity and error possibilities like H98 mentioned it. However, I would advise against an old school SSD solution in a SAT2 bay. There is no reason to adapt to the 2013 SSD Standard while you could easily adapt to the PCIe 2015 solutions with a 951 or 941 HyperX. They are much faster in booting up your machine, - it will fell like you just purchased a brand new iMac. Since High Sierra adapted a new file system, this has become even more important, in case you would like to keep your 5.1. This is exactly what keeps your machine up to date, don't let yourself get confused with some math numbers that doesn't interest anyone.
But of course this is only relevant if you plant to keep your machine for a very long time like I do. If you plan on spending 7K for a shiny new iMac Pro or the 2018 Mac Pro 7.1 with RED price tag, - well go ahead, no one will stop you.
I have both pcie cards and I am very happy with the performance. The only thing here to mention is to install a good heat sink for advanced cooling and pimped up optics.

My cmp is pretty old but still can work well on some software. Although I need more patience when editing big file.

Most important that I love the look of 5.1 more than 6.1 and I totally want keep my machine update, therefore I have upgrade my CPU, ram, Wi-Fi, and hard drives. I know that might waste some$$, It around $6-700 so far.

After all upgrade, I think my cmp can work with more than 3-5yrs.
