Hola. I did some research before posting but could not find the same issue.

So... I bought a cMP 5.1 from ebay, single tray. It had a rough trip around north america. The seller didnt know if it worked but at least theres was a flashing folder ( make sense, no hard drive).

When I got it, it took me a couple time to make it chime. Next day, nothing, then after many try it chime, then nothing (I did the pram/nvram reset, smc reset, rtc reset). So heres the issue:

- Power on by itself when plugged to a wall outlet.
- Take multiple time to chime and upon restart wont post/chime.
- When it wont post, fan run normal but nothing is initialized (black screen, no keyboard)
- When it wont post, or post, the diag led indicate 'gpu ok', 'efi ok' and 'psu pwrok', so no corrupted eeprom.
- When powered off, the diag led indicate '5v stby', so the psu *could* be ok.

I've checked the bakplane pin, they are ok. The plastic pin on the northbridge are undamaged but will replace with nylon screw.

All and all, the only thing I can think atm is that the power supply is faulty. So did I miss something or my assumption are correct ? I wish there was some diy atx to cMP conversion out there, these psu will all fail in the long run :/ I got a partial refund from the seller, so I'l take that money to buy a replacement enclosure. Its a bit of a bummer if on top I have to buy a new psu.

Any help appreciated

If it starts after plug in the rtc Battery voltage could be too low.

maybe its in an state in between, try remove the Battery completely.

Yes your right about that. The battery holder is damaged (broken leg). I did a cheap repair with a new cr2320 battery and will solder a new holder this week. Is a low or missing clock battery can result in all of these issue ?

if a mac pro does not start by the power button or shortening the pon pads on the backplane its a cheap test to remove the battery for the rtc.

It's not a cmos / bios battery, its just for the clock.

if the battery is almost drawn it can give odd behaviour.
