Just looking before leaping... updated with 2x X5670@2.93Ghz CPUs, works flawlessly with 10.13.5, and AFAIK the R9 280X has metal support.

Grateful for any observations / guidance etc.

Yes, it will work, any previously supported AMD card from the HD 7000 series and up will support Metal and therefore Mojave.

Does anyone know what the recommended Metal-capable graphics cards are?(my italics)

“macOS Mojave will be available this fall as a free software update for Macs introduced in mid-2012 or later, plus 2010 and 2012 Mac Pro models with recommended Metal-capable graphics cards.” - Apple June 4, 2018

I don't think Apple has issued that guidance yet, despite making changes in DP2 which allow it to install on the cMP5,1 without hacks (so long as a metal-capable GPU is installed).

Someone correct me if they have said something--I couldn't find it though.

[doublepost=1529800717][/doublepost]Mahalo,

I've searched everywhere I could think of but also haven't seen anything other than the generic 'metal-capable GPU'.

I don't want to buy a 'new' (well replacement but metal-capable and 'used') card until the guidance is out. Hopefully before the GM release!

Yeah, I would hold off until Apple speaks on the matter. I would think that by the time the public beta is out they should have something out.

Do you try to install public beta macOS Mojave with R9 280X GPU?

I trying today on 2 machines:

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) with R9 M390 2GB - and installed successfully
Mac Pro 5.1 mid 2010, 2 x Xeon 5680 3.33GHz, 64GB RAM, R9 280X 3GB - and I can't install Mojave

Only get info:

"Installing macOS Mojave on this Mac requires that all graphic cards have Metal support and that FileVault is disabled"

Double checked FileVault settings on my MP and is disabled, R9 280X is fully compatible with Metal... but the problem remained

So, for my opinion Apple don't care about supporting all "Meta;" compatible GPU's just trying to force us to buy some expensive "recommended by Apple " GPU's like external RX 580 for $599 ;-)

R9 280X works fine, see #28 here. DP2 and PB1 have the same build number.

Thank you for reply, I can confirm that now working without any "post install" modifications ;-)
