Looking for iOS / OS X alternative to AirDrop.
I am looking for an easy way to share photos between iPhone and OS X.

Don't hate me!
Right now I email myself photos.

I think I should install Google Drive app on both.
I'm also open to "upgrade" from iCloud to iCloud Drive.

Note: I sync my phone to my desktop. I do not want to sync photos to iCloud. I do not want to purchase additional iCloud storage.

Just connect your iPhone to your Mac with a cable and use image capture: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH17894?locale=de_AT

Still way easier than any cloud stuff. I just helped a friend get rid of a ton of duplicate photos in her photos library after using icloud for a while. We found a seperate program that would detect and delete any duplicates and that worked for most of them. All of that required way more time than plugging a cable into the iPhone from time to time.

You can enable AirDrop and Continuity (plus get 801.11AC and bluetooth 4.0) if you are willing to update your wifi card for about $100.

I would say the easiest way would be dropbox because of "lan sync". I think lan sync works with iDevices but I'm not really sure. You can also just iMessage them which is easier than email IMHO but uses the WAN. There are programs like iMazing that allow you to shove things into the phone easily.

Since you're not using iCloud photo, photo stream should be doing exactly what you want....what is the issue with iTunes/photo stream?
