I’m considering a Mac Mini 3.2ghz 6 core as my main After Effects Mac and using my cMP as a render farm.

I’m thinking of speccing the Mini with a 512gb SSD and using it as a boot/system drive and After Effects cache.

I’m then thinking of attaching the Mini to the cMP via Ethernet and continuing to use my existing PCIe SM951 in slot 2 as my media drive.

Both machines would be prevented from sleeping so I can’t foresee any network mounting issues.

And I don’t think Ethernet speed will really cut that much performance apart from maybe large file copying between machines. Even then ethernet is still very fast if not quite as fast as the SM951 itself.

What are people’s opinions on this? Anyone know any obstacles I’m missing? Is it a workable idea?

Thanks.
