Please disregard- It was a setting, which I found and corrected.

Mac Pro is an '09 2.93 GHz 8 core running last High Sierra with no problems beforehand. Monitor is an ASUS PB278 series (I think PB278Q). Video card is a Radeon HD8970 (with 3072 mb) with an additional 4K TV attached, used as second monitor, which was (and usually is) powered off but works fine when on. Problem described below. Any suggestions as to solution methodology appreciated.

I was in a rush to get out this evening and inadvertently messed up my display settings when I tried to power down my monitor. Instead of hitting the power button, I fat fingered one of the adjacent monitor control buttons and immediately realized I hit the wrong button, since it remained on. In my haste, I did not not take full cognizance of the changed display but rather just hit the power button to turn the monitor off. There was a change, as I had hit one or more of the monitor's control buttons instead of the power button, but I figured all would be normal when I restarted after powering down. When I returned some hours later I turned on the display, trackpad and wireless keyboard to find that the display was behaving weirdly. When the display is first turned on the desktop comes up normally at first. There is a box in the upper left hand corner that says "DVI". After a second, this box disappears and most of the desktop gets greyed out (but is fully functional), except for the center, which now has two outlined 8.5X11 boxes overlapping so as to form a cross. The interior of the cross is the only area not greyed out. This will persist through a system restart and also complete power cycling. If only the monitor power is recycled via power button, the desktop comes up normally after the "DVI" black corner box disappears, but then as soon as the cursor is moved the "cross" appears in the center with the label "A4" (in blue) inside. All was fine before this happened so I'm pretty sure a messed up setting is causing this, unless fat fingering monitor controls actually damaged the monitor. Very frustrating. Thanks in advance for any help.
