Why would this be good news for iphone users. Obviously most of us already have service, it's a bummer we couldn't have bought the iphone and went with another carrier is we had wanted. My previous agreement was up with AT&T and was thinking about switching, stuck with them for the next two years so I could have the iphone and now it seems it wasn't worth it. So glad AT&T and Apple are concerned about this, such a joke.
what areypu talkingabout? The only good this does is for international travelers and users.who would you use in the US? Tmobile is worse than att and its not even nation wide. People just complain for the sake of complaining.

B: There are people in the US who cannot get AT&T, and thus cannot get an iPhone.
C: Apple has never required a contract to use its products before the iPhone. This frees the iPhone.
This is nothing but good news.
Those who want and can afford iPhone (and the contract with AT&T) will or have bought iPhone. Those who do not or cannot, have not and will not. Everyone has a different opinion on providers. People have complaints with all of them.

1. If you read my post, i said it would benefit those outside of america or travelers. But for those of us inside the states, how could we be pissed off?
2. Who can't get at&t but can get t-mobile? i mean, c'mon. t-mobile covers only a fraction of the country, and at&t is nationwide except for some midwestern states. t-mobile roams on at&t most of the time. that is the only option. there are no other GSM providers in the US.
3. This is a cell phone. Everyone is required to sign a contract. Every company requires this except if you go pre-paid. Apple makes the phone, they can't change the industry.

Too f*ckin bad. No one said you had a right to every product under the sun, and if you want an iPhone that badly than yeah - switch to AT&T. Service sucks? Too bad, wait five years for the Tmobile or Verizon version.
I hope Apple/AT&T finds a means to either punish companies that offer to unlock phones or manages to create software updates that basically brick the phone if a SIM unlock is attempted. It would make this user very happy.
I'm waiting for the unlocking methods to pick up steam since that gives me some great leverage to use with AT&T and have them unlock my iPhone themselves. Lets you do ultimatums like "unless you unlock it for me, I will cancel my contract and unlock it that way".
this is because everyone is waiting for you to be happy? calm down, dude.
1. people don't get the best service with AT&T.
2. there are alot of more people in the world that want an iPhone but can't have one because right now it's AT and ****ing T exclusive in the US.
3. i'm glad Apple gives you a choice to refuse updates.
4. i doubt Apple will force everyone in the US owning an iPhone to be under AT&T and for that Apple deserve a pat on the back.

Why so bitter? Why do efforts to unlock the iPhone make some people so angry? I guess I just don't understand the mentality of someone who buys a product and then decides that everyone else has to have that product exactly as they do.
I have purchased, jailbroken and activated my new iPhone and will either software or hardware unlock it shortly, allowing me to use it not only with my existing T-Mobile plan (which is much, much better than ATT with coverage in the US Northeast that is perfectly fine) but with my Orange UK plan as well. I have no need to pay hundreds of dollars in bogus ATT international roaming charges when I can get excellent service at a mere fraction of ATT's cost using a local GSM provider.
