I would like to toy around with OS X and port some of my old quickbasic stuff into Cocoa and learn at the same time (I am not a programmer by trade)

C is pretty understandable for me but I cannot grasp Cocoa at all it seems totally foreign to what I am accustomed to when it comes to C or quickbasic.

What would the standard hello world look in Cocoa?

Check out cocoacast.com, a podcast about learning cocoa. You can also find it on iTunes. It is a screencast, and it uses the Aaron Hillegass' book "Cocoa Programming for MacOS X" as the textbook for the podcast.

Good luck. It's not that hard once you get the hang of it. It's kinda like snowboarding... really tough at first to stay on your feet, but once you start to get it, you will make leaps and bounds very quickly.
