Has anyone been able to get this game to play using Steam on Crossover for games? I can change my settings and get through the intro; however when launching into the actual gameplay, the screen goes black and just freezes. I have to do a cold shutdown to get out of the game. I would just install on Bootcamp, but I have no room on the partition to install the game there. Any ideas?

lol, no it will never work on crossover. emulation technology is almost 1-2 decades behind physical processing (for example, there still isnt an Xbox original emulator out there that works).

it should work on bootcamp assuming you meet the proper requirements

Crossover.. and Wine which it uses... are not emulators and are not behind like that.

Less performance? sure.. they have extra layers to go through to get non-native code to run natively. Will some things not work because some features are not yet implemented in Wine.... sure.

Now to answer the question.... Crossover is currently a bit behind Wine and will not run Black Ops as far as I know. However yes it does run under Wine using Wine 1.3.7.

You can try to do with with Wineskin, or just use straight up self built command line Wine yourself.... or let someone else do the work.

There are working wrappers for playing Black Ops at portingteam.com forums... one using Wineskin 2.0 beta, and one using a Cider hack.

Thanks! I was not aware that there was another program for Wine. I thought Crossover was Wine. Crossover is very disappointing, especially since all the games crossover can handle seem to be already available for Steam for the Mac.
