cod2 on a mac mini ????

Well, im real interested in getting a new mac mini with the 2.53ghz, 4g ram, and Geforce9400. The only game I care about playing on it is Call of Duty 2. I already have the pc version (had it new since '03) and I just want to get a consensus about what you people think. Will the game play fine in bootcamp with XP? Will the framerates be good with game graphic settings set to about... High? OR... should I just get the Mac version of COD2 from Aspyr? Will THAT run better than the pc version in bootcamp?

As that game is quite old (2005), and the card is quite new (2008), it will run more than fine.

I could even run COD4: MW on that card with low to medium settings.

BootCamp should be better as most Windows games that are ported to Mac OS X, still run better when using Windows.

CoD2 should be fine. As Spinnerlys said, even CoD4 on lower settings achieves a decent enough frame-rate on the new Mini. This might also be of some interest:

I prefer to play decent OS X ports where they exist, but Boot Camp is always another option.

awesome help!! thanks so much, folks. Just a few more concerns. IF i were to get the Aspry version of COD2, how stable is it?? I thought I read some problems online about it acting funny with Leopard. Have these issues been resolved? I believe the new Mac Mini comes with Snow leopard.

I recently got Call of Duty 2 for my 20" imac with an Ati Radeon 2400. Runs pretty well and have had no crashes, bugs or glitches. Seems like a good port to me.

My friend plays this like every day online with his buddies on his Mac Mini from 2009 (with the 9400M), he got the digital download version from Aspyr (www.gameagent.com) and he can max the game out. Asked him if it has any hiccups on SnowLeo and he said it runs fine.

Aspyr--Questionable Performance on Nvidia

My late 2008 iMac with Nvidia 8800 GS couldn't run Aspyr's CoD2 for Mac past 40 FPS on lowest settings due to a driver glitch. Mac users had acknowledged this. I don't know how well you would be able to run it natively on Nvidia in Snow Leopard; it might be better, and the poster above me seems to know something about this. My 2009 iMac with Radeon HD 4850 runs CoD2 at medium settings w/AF, 1080p res at 125 FPS in Snow Leopard, proving that ATI has no real driver issues with COD2.
So, to sum it up: if you choose to play the Windows version, you should easily be able to max it out on your Mac Mini. On Snow Leopard (the OS all new Minis come with), the performance is questionable; since Nvidia had trouble under OSX 10.5.6, it might also have trouble under Snow Leopard. Try downloading the Mac demo of CoD2 here (make sure its the demo from MacGameFiles, and not the patch):http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/games/demos_updates/callofduty2.html
If it runs well on your Nvidia GPU, you should be good to go. If not, well, use the Windows version.

yeah, i love this game. As far as im concerned, i dont need any newer FPS games. It's all point, click and kill to me. I even still play UT '99 GOTY very often with another friend up in NY. Theres plenty of mods and maps for COD2 and plenty of people still playing it daily. I would prefer to use the Aspyr version just so i can be completely done with Windows, im fed up with bugs and glitches and re-installations and worrying about viruses and spyware.
