well, it so happened that a little bit of coffee( yes cream and sugar) fell on the right side of the KB. the wife says it was about 10 mL.....hmmm...sounds better than the BP oil spill.

Now, it appears the Shift button on the right whenever pressed acts as cmnd+R..keeps refreshing the browser. i have to press the Left shift button to undo it.

using an xternal KB , no problems.
other than that, no other problems.

I know there are a million threads out there that talk about liquid damage, but just wanted to get my anxiety down for what could be worth a replacement of a KB( maybe 200 dollars) versus KB + Logic board( 800 dollars).

If things are working perfect with an external KB, what are the chances that the logic board is gone?

WOW dude, i had a very similar case earlier.
i got my kb spilled with water ( not much ),
it was the left side of the KB.
Turned out my command key kept pressing itself and i keep typing symbols when doing normal writing. But the whole system still functioned well.
I ignored that and shut my MBA and went to sleep.
On the next day, when i tried to turn it on again it just didnt respond at all.
i left it for a few days, and made sure the device is completely dry up and took it to a ASP. And they seemed to think the KB died naturally and replace the KB for me.( so lucky) And when the KB got fixed, everything was there, just like nth ever happened.

Just had the same issue also. Water spill on the left side caused my shift key to be constantly held down. System worked perfectly when an external keyboard was plugged in.

Took it to the Mac store, they replaced the top case for $200, and it's working great.

Only difference was that I hit the left side - which I think is where the battery is. Any idea what's under the right side?

Under the Right Shift and Enter key lies a fan. I dont know if it still functions/spins. i will have to run some videos and see if this thing still cools. Although my wife has not complained of the Air getting to warm.

Next, i ordered me some iSkin Pro FX for my macs.


If iSkin is confident of not overheating or affecting the performance of a device, why does Apple not have a water repellant layer of some sort seperating the logic board from the perils of the external environment( not talking about tornados, but just little water spills).

Now, lets be honest, who has not had a drink whilst using their fancy laptop or computer in the average 4 year lifespan of such devices. An accident is possible and also very probable.
Maybe there is a higher meaning in all this. maybe should not have bitten on that apple.

The same thing happened after I cleaned my keyboard. I took it to the apple store and they replaced the topcase for free. Good luck! If you do have to pay, you'll probably only have to pay $200 for top case.

No luck - they didn't ask about the water, and I never told them when I first came in. When they opened it up for the actual repair a day later, they found the water sensors trigged and said they wouldn't cover.

At $200, I wasn't too concerned, but that was perhaps due to the expectation going in that I might be paying $700+. Perhaps being more upfront than I might get them to cover it?
