Have owned my iMac for a little over a month. Recently, I have to press the power button a 2nd time to power it up. I thought I might not have been pressing the button square on. Though I could have sworn from the beginning I was pressing the button the same way.
Once my iMac boots all is well. I can press the power button once to put it into sleep mode each and every time. Several times a day. Which is why I'm thinking it might be software related.
I can also then shut it down. Wait. Press again once to power it up. The 2 presses has only been happening first thing in the morning. Will see if this happens again tomorrow morning. Will make a more firm 1st press.
Asked around in another Mac forum and was told if this continues maybe I should reset the "PRAM and then SMC". What does that accomplish? Are there consequences I should be aware of? (e.g. loss of settings and data?).
Ideas?
