...am I mad?

How big and heavy is the box? Does it have carry handles? I will need to lug it back on the Underground from the Regent Street store!

Just trying to avoid the usual delivery issues and my natural impatience <G>

I wrongly thought I knew where the AASP was in Limerick and parked accordingly.

I then had to lug my 20" iMac G5 about 10 long blocks and my arms were stretched by 5" when I got there.

I waited in the car for it to be repaired and drove right up to the front door to collect it.

The box for the 24" would be rather bulky too I'd imagine.

Then again, I suppose it's all down to how strong you are.

Your biggest problem is going to be preventing yourself from getting mugged on the way home.

At least he'll have a ginormous box to crush the muggers with.

:D

Might meet a few friends for 'protection' - although I've always felt safe on the Tube. No-one ever makes eye contect with anyone else anyway- they'll never notice the ginormous Apple box. Alternatively, perhaps Apple could wrap it in a VERY large brown paper bag? :)

Decisions, decisions.

Ask them to deliver it. Or take a taxi. Seriously, take it from one who has lugged an old 20" iMac G5 around 3 times already (same weight as the new 24")... those boxes are NOT easy to carry!

hey it's all good.
you will be happy once you get it in place. just have a friend to help.

maybe you ought to take a cab. apple will help load it into it. and if you havea friend at your place... they can help from there.

I would bring a sleeve or wrapper along to drape over the box.

The wrapper should read: BIOHAZARD - BLOOD SAMPLES.

You'll be fine.

(I have actually used variations on this trick with good results :) )

Perhaps some sanity has returned to me and I'll just order it :D At least that gives me time to retire my PowerMac G4 and the antici....pation is half the fun!

Either that or get a MacMini.

(a cab is out of the equation living as I do out in the sticks...17 stops on the Central Line)

I think Apple should start including a carrying case that can be returned to the store. Like a backpack for the iMac. I remember lugging my 20" from the store to my car a ways and it wasn't heavy but cumbersome. I can imagine the 24" being even more difficult.
