This is not a Photoshopped image... rather, the sign has been judiciously altered with paper and Scotch-brand adhesive tape. (Meaning, all someone has to do is pull it off... no permanent damage.)

Yes, I was rather bored today. :)

P.S.: Please DON'T call the company that owns the sign... I'm conducting an experiment to see how long the change lasts before someone notices the change and takes it down.

rather bored today, meaning you actually did this, or just saw it and took a picture?

id say give it a week or so. people have probably seen it and just not cared to do anything about it

I'm the one who did it... stuck it up almost an hour ago. The main thing I'm worried about is the wind pulling the paper down... I may have to go back later tonight (it's across the street from where I live) and reinforce the tape with some more tape.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I heard that some guy was applying to some school of business, but spelled "business" wrong, which was then changed to "bunnies" by the spellchecker. He was then promptly rejected. It might be an urban myth, but I have heard of the "school of business" to "school of bunnies" thing before.

I've seen senior managers spellcheck their e-mail, with names like "Sorenson" being turned into "Soreness". Yet another reason NOT to use spellcheckers.

As to this... I was driving past the sign, on my way home, and in a split second my brain figured out that "Business" and "Bunnies" have the same letters in them. (To me, "bunnies" always reminds me of a Monty Python episode where I think it was "Storytime" and all of Eric Idle's stories turned naughty very quickly.) Took a super-high resolution picture, imported it into Photoshop, jiggered the letters around, printed it out, cut and taped it, and slapped it up on the sign. A couple of folks saw me and gasped, but I told 'em it's a temporary defacement. Personally, I think it's pretty funny.

Personally, I applaud your act of artistic defacement for the sake of a chuckle.. On Duke's campus, there's an "International House" which is a student center for (get this) international students. Relevant signage ensues..

At various times over the early years of the 90s, the moniker "of Pancakes" has magically appeared to join it's brethren. I can assure you, I had nothing to do with it at least 2 times.

Sadly, I think the elements are more of an enemy to my "art" than any person... I just checked and the damn thing fell down. Got the stepladder out and more tape and taped it up nice and good. Hopefully it will last more than two hours this time. ;) I really need to have the editing done as a bumper sticker so it'll really stay up...

(I took the picture right away so I'd have a record of the act...)

We've gotta start placing bets on this.

This thing is up for two weeks minimum, assuming you take good care of it.

Photoshopping some bunnies with mortarboards into the picture would make me feel happy ...

This is certainly like the pranks of old. Something that is completely harmless. Kudos on your resourcefulness. ;)

That big blue space in the middle, I don't suppose you could put something there to make it look a little less empty...

Of course, it might get noticed and taken down a little quicker. ;)

OK, as of 3 PM local today, it's still there... my tape reinforcing job from last night seems to be doing the trick so far. It's been up 19 hours so far.

I give you a lot of credit for being able to return for a reinforcement. Chances are it will remain longer because of the quiet of summer.

Hopefully so, although we do get a lot of rain around here in the afternoons.

My biggest fear during the whole thing was being accosted by a bored and/or humorless police officer who wouldn't see the prank for what it is... a harmless experiment. :)

I would give it a week tops, mostly because if it is a development site with construction currently underway, it reflects poorly on the contractor as well, so not only the owner of the property but also the builder would want it down. More enemies means faster response (usually).

I'll be interested to see what happens though, kind of a neat study.

Yeah it's 108 (heat index) in Durham today (blech), and I expect a torrential rain. Hopefully if the same happens in Charr-Lotté the sign will survive!

Cool, next year, I'm getting my Ph.D. in "bunnies" :D

With Dr. Heffner as your school's president :D I would attend, worth more than what I am paying now for a "better" education....or at least better scenery than an engineering school
