Howdy all,

has anyone successfully color calibrated the new LED display
in their mbp? I'd like to buy one too but no manufactuer (spyder,
pantone) officialy supports those displays (only TFT/LCD and CRTs).
Maybe someone with hands on experience can tell me which
corlorimeter seems to work ok on the new display.

...only TFT/LCD and CRTs...

The displays are still TFT/LCD, they just use LED's as a backlight source rather than the CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp)

Think of it this way, they've changed the light bulb behind the display from a fluorescent tube (like you'd see in the ceiling grid) to a bunch of white LED's.

The Basics
Liquid crystal display technology works by blocking light. Specifically, an LCD is made of two pieces of polarized glass (also called substrate) that contain a liquid crystal material between them. A backlight creates light that passes through the first substrate. At the same time, electrical currents cause the liquid crystal molecules to align to allow varying levels of light to pass through to the second substrate and create the colors and images that you see.

Everything else is the same, just a different light source behind the substrate. You could hold a candle back there and it would still work, but it would not be lit evenly or be very bright. LED's are bright, last longer, use less energy and are greener (no mercury) than the CCFLs.

So to answer your question, a calibrator that works on LCD's should work just fine
