Color Variants - Opine Please

Well I do like your colors a bit more - easier on the eyes.
However I have a hard time liking either of the menu backgrounds.
Both make it difficult to read the menu - I would simplify the background into either a more subtle gradient or on 'your' version removing the textured background. There are just too many gradients, textures, stripes in the design. Maybe choose just one of those elements and use variations through out your design.

I like your design better too: the light blue is too distracting for me.
As for menus, I'm also leaning towards the one you like, mainly because white on (almost) white/gray is less legible than white on black. It also seems to fit your design a little better.
