Colormunki Photo display calibration

I just picked up a Colormunki Photo to profile my printer.

I'm using an MBP, and the first step is to profile the monitor since it has to match the printer. I've tried the process about a dozen times with various settings and versions of the software, different angles for the sensor, etc. And I very consistently get and intense brown color cast. Even their sample image looks good with the default apple profile and like crap with the Colormunki profile.

Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong, or is it possible I have a defective unit?

What Mac OSX are you running and what version of CM software?

OSX 10.10.4 and CM 1.2.2. I had a 1.1.1 as well, that was one of the things I tried changing.

I also can't get the printer test to work; my driver doesn't seem to have any color options that aren't greyed out. It insists on using colorsync and everything under color matching is disabled. My driver is very dumbed down compared to the instructions I see online.

I did the printer profile using a windows box and installed the generated profile on my mac. I tried printing with it and the result is a very good match for what I see on the MB display. It's got a strong brown cast, but the exact same cast it gave my computer. There is a bit of a muddy loss of detail on the screen and print as well.

This is a photo I've printed before at WHCC, so I know what it's supposed to look like and the brown cast isn't there. It's also the whole UI that is tinted, even the white background of this web page has a very noticeable cast.

It's interesting that the print does match the screen though. Is it possible I have a bad colormunki or is there some adjustment I'm missing?

I have a Color Munki and a Canon Pro 100 Printer. I get what I consider to be almost perfect printer renditions of what I see on the display of my late 2016 MBP15. This is my process.

I have two different color profiles for my display on my MBP

- Images displayed on the web: Tone Response Curve = 2.2, White Point = D65, and Display Luminance for the monitor set to 90 cd/m2.
- Images to be printed: Tone Response Curve = 1.8, White Point = D50, and Display Luminance for the monitor set to 90 cd/m2.

Of course, you will need to set your software to the correct ICC profile for the printer and paper you are using.
